U.S. Supreme Court discusses Trump immunity claim

Former President Donald Trump’s immunity from prosecution claim is one of the most important ever being heard before the U.S. Supreme Court, just across the street from the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. Nathan King has more.

Trump is charged with trying to overturn the election that was certified in Congress. He is facing trial and potentially prison, but Trump and his lawyers claim as president, he had “absolute immunity” from prosecution for any acts taken while in office. His lawyers claimed in front of the Supreme Court justices that he could only be prosecuted if he had been impeached, convicted and removed from office in a congressional trial.
