Six months after MH370 disappeared, the search continues

World Today

Six months after Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared, investigators still have not found a single trace of the plane or its passengers. Malaysia and Australia announced new plans for a $100 million search phase.

The new search phase will be focused on the 60,000 square kilometers (about 23 square miles) of sea floor west of Perth, Australia. The phase is scheduled to begin at the end of September, and may take up to a year.

The Boeing 777 plane was traveling to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8 when it disappeared. Later evidence showed that someone had turned the plane from its designated flight path toward the southern Indian Ocean.

Twenty-six countries have helped in the investigation to find the plane and the 239 people aboard, but no remains have surfaced. The wait for developments in the search has been agonizing for the families of those aboard the plane.
