People across China celebrated the 1,500 year-old Laba Festival on Tuesday.
During the festival, which falls on the eighth day of the twelfth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, many eat congee or Labazhou, which consists of eight different ingredients, ranging from grains to beans to dried fruit.
According to traditional belief, people who eat Laba congee on the Laba Festival will enjoy good fortune in the coming year.
Many volunteers and non-governmental organizations around the country took the time to feed nursing home and cook large pots of congee for the elderly people and distribute free Laba congee to passersby.
