Beef is an integral part of the Argentine identity, economy and way of life.
Historically, Argentina has been one of the world’s largest producers and consumers of beef. Yet in recent years the country has slid down the list in terms of production. That’s something the new government aims to reverse with pro-agriculture economic policies and hopes that the lifting of United States import restrictions can help reactivate the industry.
Correspondent Joel Richards examines the beef business of Argentina for “Americas Now.”
From an upscale Buenos Aires steakhouse called “Steaks By Luis” where the perfect “asado” is made, to the grasslands of Sante Fe where cattle ranching farms retain tradition by being passed down through the generations, Joel travels the country to show us the importance of beef to Argentina.
