Thousands of gather at The Campus Party, Brazil's largest tech showcase

More than 140,000 people attended Brazil’s biggest technology event, the Campus Party in Sao Paulo. Encouraging startups and creators to make their ideas reality is one of the key goals of this event.

CGTN’s Paulo Cabral reports.

Event officials said this year, 12,000 people enrolled in conferences on the latest industry trends and business opportunities. Eight thousand attendees were actually camping here – either because they have traveled long distances or don’t want to miss anything.

The Campus Party is, as its name implies, a big celebration; a place to learn about the latest trends, exchange information and meet people. But it is also good opportunity to pitch new ideas to potential investors. In the startup and makers pavilion entrepreneurs showed-off their prototypes, pitched their ideas and received mentoring on how to develop their businesses.

“Of course all start-ups would like to receive a huge investment but I think the most important thing is to give to the ‘campuseiros’ the opportunity to have great mentoring because when you have great mentoring, the mentor can teach you how to have a perfect business plan,” Rodrigo Novaes, director general of Campus Party Brasil said.

Some ideas pitched here in the past proved successful business for companies – like EuNerd.

“When you put a lot of nerds together doing hackathons and working on new solutions for the market, such as block chain and IT, they create a lot of amazing things I am pretty sure a lot of companies will be born in these Campus Party event,” Bruno Ramos, co-founder and CEO of EuNerd said.

Finding the best ideas with the most potential and making them a reality is a big challenge – but one that can also be very profitable.
