US tariffs put American soybean industry under threat from China

U.S. soybean exports are big business. Some 89.5 million acres of soybeans are expected to be planted in 2018, overtaking corn as the country’s most planted crop.

China imports 57-percent of all U.S. soybeans exports, but many farmers are worried.

CGTN’s Dan Williams reports.

The White House has already imposed metal tariffs on China. Washington could add further duties on Chinese goods worth nearly $50 billion.

American farmers fear China will in return impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, which could include soybeans.
