Guyana becomes world’s newest oil producer

This week, one of the world’s largest oil companies, ExxonMobil, decided to invest $10 billion in an oil field off the coast of Guyana.

Guyana – vulnerable to climate change and one of the poorest nations in South America – became the world’s newest oil producer in 2019.

Ironically, in a time when it must also reduce its carbon footprint.
