There’s been an uproar in the United States in recent weeks over reports the federal government was planning to regulate gas cooking stoves. The debate has spilled over to Congress.

Cooktops have been linked to high levels of nitrogen dioxide and other chemicals, which the World Health Organization says are unsafe and lead to respiratory illnesses like asthma.
