California seeks reparations to bring about racial equality

World Today

California is seeking to become the first state in the U.S. to pay reparations to its African-American residents over the systematic discrimination and mistreatment of the people.

A reparations task force has been studying ways in which California can compensate its African-American residents, with initial recommendations of payments up to $1.2 million dollars.

The recommendations will be sent to California’s legislator, where experts say it could face an uphill battle. CGTN’s correspondent Ediz Tiyansan reports.
