California is seeking to become the first state in the U.S. to pay reparations to its African-American residents over the systematic discrimination and mistreatment of the people.
A reparations task force has been studying ways in which California can compensate its African-American residents, with initial recommendations of payments up to $1.2 million dollars.
The recommendations will be sent to California’s legislator, where experts say it could face an uphill battle. CGTN’s correspondent Ediz Tiyansan reports.
