Peru is fighting its worst dengue outbreak on record, and it could intensify further as an El Niño climate phenomenon brings more heavy rains and more mosquitoes.

The death toll this year has passed 200 with over 130,000 recorded cases, double the number of the last outbreak in 2017.

Hospitals are overrun and children are particularly impacted in the northern region of Piura.
