As Ecuadorians go to the polls to choose a new president on Sunday, the killing of a presidential candidate less than two weeks before the vote has set the tone for a fraught election.

Eight candidates pledge to boost security and fight crime following a surge of drug cartel violence in the once-peaceful nation.
