Mifepristone is colloquially known as the “abortion pill” and used by nearly two-thirds of women in the United States who choose to terminate their pregnancies.

Anti-abortion campaigners object that women can receive this drug through the mail, even in states that have banned or severely restricted abortion. In a landmark case, the U.S. Supreme court ruled in June that a group of anti-abortion doctors lacked standing in their lawsuit claiming the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had acted improperly in approving mifepristone more than 20 years ago. Abortion rights activists celebrated the high court’s rejection of the case, but the battle is far from over and has become an election issue. CGTN’s Nathan King reports.
