In Mexico, a masked rebel icon has come out of hiding for the first time in five years to announce he will step down.

Known as “Subcomandante Marcos,” he has been the public face of the Zapatista rebellion movement in Chiapas state.

He says his persona is now dead and a new one will take his place. CCTV’s Franc Contreras reports from Mexico City.
