But he narrowly edged out opposition leader Mauricio Macri by just two percent, setting up what will likely be a furious month of campaigning.

The race to succeed Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is heading for a runoff. Daniel Scioli, backed by the Kirchner government, was considered the front-runner in many polls.
