As the year ends on the island of Cuba, citizens will continue to face challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and a weak economy in the new year. 

More than eight thousand Cubans have died from COVID-19. 

In 2021, the pandemic continued to spread while negatively impacting the economy on the island.
