Iran is criticizing new U.S. sanctions imposed on Friday.

In Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called the sanctions “a crime against humanity.”

He also said they won’t affect international talks surrounding Iran’s controversial nuclear program.

The new U.S. sanctions are the first imposed since talks resumed last November.

CCTV’s Nathan King reports on what this means for the nuclear negotiations.

US takes action against companies and people

Iran is criticizing fresh U.S. sanctions imposed on Friday.

These sanctions target companies and individuals the U.S. says are, “Providing support to illicit Iranian nuclear activities.” They include the head of a key research facility in Iran. In total 25 organizations and individuals are targeted including banks and businesses, many in Iran, one in the United Arab Emirates and one in Italy.

The U.S. says the sanctions do not affect the joint framework agreement reached last November where Iran gets limited sanctions of several billions of dollars, relief in return for suspending much of its nuclear activity. But Iran nonetheless is criticizing Washington’s move.
