How is COVID-19 affecting animals?

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 continues to climb, approaching 7.2 million on Monday with nearly 409,000 deaths. With no end to the pandemic in sight, animals are getting infected, too, but do they pose risk to humans?

Probably not. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control says “there is no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading the virus.”

So, don’t worry about hugging your cat or dog. But the coronavirus is still affecting animals in a variety of ways.
