After fighting apartheid in South Africa and imprisonment for 27 years Nelson Mandela became the country’s first democratically-elected president.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation and the South African government is honoring Mandela’s 100th birthday with the them “Be the Legacy.”
Madiba, as Mandela was affectionately called, united a deeply-divided country and inspired many people around the world.
CGTN’s Vauldi Carelse has this report from Johannesburg.
