China is helping connect Europe and Asia with its global development project, the Belt and Road Initiative. Hungary, the first European country to join the BRI, hails it as a clear success.
The Hungary-Serbia Railway is a landmark Belt and Road project that is set to be completed in 2025. In Montenegro, a new billion dollar Chinese-built highway is expected to provide a major boon for the small Balkan country.
In southern Europe, BRI investment is also having a big impact. Since China’s COSCO Shipping bought into Greece’s Port of Piraeus there has been huge development, and it is now a major trade hub at the crossroads of Asia, Europe and Africa.
