Chinese President Xi Jinping sent U.S. President Donald Trump a congratulatory message marking forty years since Beijing and Washington established diplomatic ties.
President Xi said history has proved that cooperation is the best choice for both sides. Trump said his priority is to promote cooperative and constructive U..S-China relations.
The leaders also spoke by telephone over the weekend, as trade delegations prepare to meet in Beijing next week, in hopes of ending the trade dispute.
