U.S. President Donald Trump announced new sanctions on Iran after they downed a U.S. drone in the Gulf of Oman and are accused of attacking oil tankers. The new sanctions are already accompanied by an end to waivers for countries that import Iran’s oil and the U.S. ordering all non-emergency personnel out of the country.
But Tehran has denied any wrongdoing and says the sanctions will have no impact. The United Nations Security Council is urging ‘maximum restraint’ amid escalating tensions. Both countries say they already are exercising it.
