Just days before the United States hosted a virtual “Summit for Democracy” China released a comprehensive document outlining its approach to democracy.
Last Saturday, China’s State Council Information Office, presented its perspective in a white paper called “China: Democracy That Works.” It stresses the important role that Chinese people play.
To discuss:
- Einar Tangen is a political and economic affairs commentator.
- Josef Gregory Mahoney is a professor of Politics and International Relations at East China Normal University in Shanghai
- Vladimir Golstein heads the Slavic Studies department at Brown University.
- Zoon Ahmed Khan is a Research Fellow at the Center for China and Globalization

People should be at the center of #democracy. What China has is whole-process people’s democracy: from the people, to the people, with the people, for the people. Its purpose is to create a better life for the people. Read White Paper on China's democracy: https://t.co/cA3JiNgqCb pic.twitter.com/BCS2u8VSbP
