Top teams from around the world battle it out at the Women’s World Cup football tournament in Canada. The Women’s World Cup football tournament kicked off in Canada earlier this month. Twenty four of the best teams in the women’s international game are taking part. So far the games have produced some spectacular skills, scoring and lots of excitement. In all, 52 matches will be played with the final scheduled to take place on July 5.

But, the games are not getting the same level of attention as the men’s tournament held in Brazil last year. And, there is some controversy as the best female players in the world are playing the games on artificial surfaces something that has never happened at a Men’s World Cup.

To discuss all of this and for perspective on the women’s game internationally The Heat spoke to Carrie Serwetnyk. She’s played football for her country and was the first woman to be inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame.
