Thousands of migrants are dying as they try to reach Europe.

Over the last several years, thousands of migrants have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea as they tried to make their way to European countries like Italy and Greece.

One of the deadliest tragedies happened recently after an overloaded boat capsized and sank off the Greek coast. It resulted in dozens of confirmed deaths and hundreds more missing. The boat had sailed from Libya packed with migrants from countries in North Africa, Syria and Pakistan.

The latest disaster has also focused attention on the tough stance Europe has taken on border security as it responds to the ongoing crisis.
