The United States has submitted a draft resolution before the United Nations Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages kidnapped by Hamas.

It comes after a declaration by the UN this week of imminent famine in parts of Gaza and the Biden administration’s concerns over Israel’s plans to launch a ground invasion in Rafah where more than a million Palestinians are sheltering.
